The absolute worst experience EVER with an African braiding salon. I head over to the salon as I had an 8:30am appointment that I called about 3 days prior. When I arrive, the owner and one other customer is there. An hour and a half later someone starts on my hair. I wasn't too mad about it because it has happened to me before at other braiding salons.. it was just annoying if anything. People make appointments for reasons. Before the lady starts braiding my hair I told her how long I wanted my braids... to my breastline. I was told that would be $160... I said fine!..no problem. The lady braids about a quarter of my hair and takes a break. While she is breaking I check the length of my hair and realize it's not as long as I had requested. So I politely state to the owner that I would like it longer. The owner then gets irritated with me stating that I wanted the "$160 length" and I should have told her I wanted the {"$180 length). She told me that the lady would have to start all over to get it longer and that she couldn't do that. So having never been to this woman's shop and having not lived in Delaware for year's I stated to her that I did not know lengths by price... I just knew how I wanted my hair to be. The lady then begins to get angry and condescending. Telling me that she didn't need me as a customer and so on. I told her to please just continue with the hairstyle as is and then we did not have to do business again. So I sat quite and let the lady continue my hair, until the lady demands her money. I told her that I did not have cash (at no point when I made my appointment did she mention that it was cash only) so I had to go get money. I collected my items (because after the exchange we had...I did not trust my things with her) and headed to my car to go to the Chase atm to get cash. Chase is about a 5 min drive from the salon. As I'm walking I can sense that I'm being followed only to turn around and see the owner of the shop following me in haste. I felt completely uncomfortable and threatened and called the police for assistance. She followed me all the way to my car!! I just couldn't believe it! It has never happened to me and it was so inappropriate for a business owner to act in such a manner from yelling at the customer to chasing them down the street... sigh! Once the police arrived I explained to them the owner's behavior and that as I was headed to my car I felt threatened and did not wish to continue to be serviced at her salon. I told them that I was willing to pay for the quarter of the hair that was done but that I did not feel comfortable dealing with her. The police go in and she tells them that she thought that I was going to leave and not return. She then told them that I could pay her the $160 and she could finish my hair or that I could pay her $80 for the hair she finished. I disagreed because the lady barely completed a quarter of head. So I head to the atm and return and tell the police that I would give her $40 (now mind you...most people would not have given her anything but I'm a Christian woman and I know that you treat people the way you want to be treated so I paid her for the services that were rendered). I left and decided to go to another salon to have them finish my hair. Thinking okay... that happened and now we'll move on. So I go to another salon nearby only to find out the owner of Hadja called all the salons in Wilmington and told them that I did not pay for my services. This salon agreed to do my hair only if I came back and took out the braids that were already put in and I just didn't have time for any more African hair braiding drama in Delaware so I went somewhere else, a professional salon, to get my hair braided and was very happy with the experience. I have one recommendation for the owner of this salon - if you take care of your customers the money will come... but if you focus only on the money and fear losing it so bad that you hunt your customers down in a threatening manner... you'll continue to lose money. God bless you and I wish you the best.
